The Taraba state Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC Abdumalik Dama Bello says the command has since commenced sensitization on this year's ember months.

In an interview with our reporter in Jalingo, the sector commander said the Sensitization campaign which started in September was part of the lineup of activities for this year's campaign.

Abdumalik Bello said ember months are a period that has a series of activities such as harvest, festivals, and ceremonies as such people travel a lot and accidents are bound to happen.

He noted that vehicular movements, at this period, were characterized by speedy and reckless driving coupled with the poor state of the roads as some of the factors responsible for road crashes.

The sector commander also mentioned that this year's Sensitization theme; "Speed Thrills, But It Kills"  was born out of a dire need to curb the rate of untimely death caused by reckless driving.

Abdumalik expressed satisfaction with cooperation from the officers of the command and the collaboration of stakeholders in the state since he assumed office as the Sector Commander in Jalingo.

Bello further advised the road users and the public to assist the FRSC in reducing avoidable road accidents by strictly adhering to traffic rules even when no one is watching.

Pensioners in Taraba State pass Vote of No confidence on the State Secretary Paul A. Tyav

By Yusuf Salihu Sansani, Jalingo

Pensioners in Taraba Taraba State have unanimously passed "a vote of no confidence" on the State Secretary of the Union Mr. Paul A. Tyav and removed him from office with immediate effect.

In a Notification letter signed by the branch Chairmen of the Union in the sixteen Local Government Areas of the State as well as one State and one Local Government pensioner from all the branches,  the Pensioners said the current vote of no confidence on the State Secretary was first based on the report of a Committee set up by the State Council of the NUP last year to dialogue with retired Permanent Secretaries which indicted the Secretary for all the problems and woes of the Union in the State including the opting out of the retired permanent Secretaries from the Union and formation of their separate Association.

They said the State Secretary is always reversing the hand of the Clock backward for Pensioners by conducting all affairs of the Union in secrecy denying other Officials of the Union from performing their statutory responsibilities, the Secretary is in custody of all financial documents and records including cheques denying the State Treasurer who supposed to handle all financial matters and Once he is not around all activities of the Union in Taraba State stand still.

Members of the Union further noted that the State Secretary Paul A. Tyav is running a one-man Show regarding all members of the Union in the State as slaves who do not even know anything about the Union, any issue not initiated by him will not see the light of the day thereby frustrating all the efforts of officials of the Union in the State which they said they will no longer condone.

The Pensioners observed that the postures of disrespect to constituted Authorities, Senior officials of Government, and pension Administrators in the State by the State Secretary has made the payment of entitlements of pensioners very difficult because all the Agencies responsible for treating the issues of Pensioners are not happy with his attitudes compounding the problems of Pensioners in Taraba State.

More worrisome, the Pensioners lamented that the State Secretary Paul A Tyav has overstayed in office for eighteen consecutive years and he is not an indigene of Taraba State, saying that they are tired and need a change as everything in life is dynamic, not static where change is necessary all the time promising to replace the State Secretary with and indigene to secure the secrets of the Union in Taraba State.

They said more disturbing, the State Secretary Paul A Tyav is not a retiree in any way in Taraba State but if he insists that he is a retiree he should present all his retirement documents comprising his letter of First Appointment,   where he retires from Service, approval from CSC and Bureau for Establishments as well as from any of the two Pension Boards in Taraba State.

They maintained that for the past twelve years, Paul Tyav brought in only people he could manipulate as State officials of the Union, and when they refused to follow his dictates he planned a sinister means of removing them from Office and bringing in his cohorts so that he can continue to have a smooth ride accusing the National officer being always sent to Taraba State to handle all NUP issues Bunmi Ogunkolade of connivance with the State Secretary to overturn everything in favour of the Secretary warning the National Headquarters not to sent the officer Bunmi Ogunkolade again to Taraba State among other allegations.

They further advised the National Headquarters of the NUP in Abuja not to make the mistake of extending the tenure of the  NUP Caretaker Committee Constituted in Taraba State adding that the election must be held on December 5th, 2023 as scheduled vowing to stop the 1% being deducted as dues from their monthly pensions which the National Headquarters gets the lion share of 45% without them getting anything from the National Headquarters since the creation of Taraba State.

The Notification letter for the vote of no confidence by the Pensioners in Taraba State was copied to the  State Head of Civil Service and all Security Agencies in Taraba State.

In an era where lifestyle factors are increasingly linked to the risk of cancer, health experts are highlighting the importance of making healthy choices to reduce the incidence of this deadly disease.

The lack of regular exercise and the overconsumption of processed foods are now recognized as significant risk factors for cancer.

Jamilu Yayawa Muhammad, the program officer of the FHAMAS Cancer Foundation, recently discussed the critical issue of cancer in an interview with our reporter in Jalingo.

He emphasized that cancer often demands substantial resources for treatment and can take a severe toll on individuals and their families.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed throughout October, has gained prominence due to the growing impact of cancer worldwide.

Jamilu Muhammad used this opportunity to call on women between the ages of fifteen to forty-five to take charge of their health.

He stressed the importance of self-awareness and regular breast examinations, encouraging women to seek counseling and immediate treatment if diagnosed with cancer.

The program manager also underlined the foundation's longstanding commitment to raising awareness about cancer and its prevention in Taraba.

Over the years, the FHAMAS Cancer Foundation has been at the forefront of championing various initiatives and campaigns aimed at educating the public on the causes and prevention of cancer.

As the link between lifestyle choices and cancer risk becomes increasingly clear, the FHAMAS Cancer Foundation's efforts in promoting awareness and advocating for healthier living are poised to make a significant difference in the fight against this formidable disease.

By empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their health and well-being, they are paving the way for a future with fewer cancer diagnoses and improved outcomes for those affected by the disease.

New, Unverified Users On X To Pay $1 Annual Subscription

X, formerly known as Twitter, has announced a new programme requiring new and unverified users to pay a $1 annual subscription fee to sign up.

This was contained in a statement shared on the support account of the popular social media platform today, October 18.

According to X, the program is now being tested in New Zealand and the Philippines. The test will allow new accounts to post and interact with other users.

The statement read, "Starting today, we're testing a new program (Not A Bot) in New Zealand and the Philippines.

"New, unverified accounts will be required to sign up for a $1 annual subscription to be able to post & interact with other posts. Within this test, existing users are not affected.

"This new test was developed to bolster our already successful efforts to reduce spam, manipulation of our platform and bot activity while balancing platform accessibility with the small fee amount. It is not a profit driver.

"And so far, subscription options have proven to be the main solution that works at scale."

In a tweet Wednesday, Elon Musk, X's chairman, disclosed the reason for the annual subscription fee.

According to Musk, the charge will reduce spam and automated bot accounts.

"Correct, read for free, but $1/year to write. It's the only way to fight bots without blocking real users.

"This won't stop bots completely, but it will be 1000X harder to manipulate the platform."
