Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has sued for support for physically challenged persons in the state.

Speaking at the 2023 International White Cane Day celebration, the Governor emphasized the significance of the White Cane as more than just a tool; it represents independence for the visually impaired.

The Governor was represented by his Deputy  Aminu Abdullahi Alkali, at the event, organized by the Ministry for Social Justice and Reintegration in collaboration with the Nigeria Association of the Blind, Taraba State Chapter, held at Shield Hotel in Jalingo.

Governor Kefas stressed that supporting individuals who are physically challenged is a collective responsibility, urging the public to assist them to enable them to have a sense of belonging.

She highlighted this as a testament to Governor Agbu Kefas's commitment to fairness, social integration, and empowering the vulnerable in society.

The commissioner expressed gratitude to the Governor for his support and encouraged others to follow his example.

Clement Yakubu Giwa, the representative of Rotary International in the state, shed light on the history of the White Cane, which was conceived by one of its members in the 1930s and first celebrated on October 15, 1954.

Wande Remang, Chairman of the Nigeria Association of the Blind, Taraba State Chapter, appealed to the state government for job opportunities and requested land for the construction of their secretariat.

The event not only celebrated the significance of the White Cane but also emphasized the need for empowering visually impaired individuals within the state.
