Taraba State Internal Revenue Service has expressed its readiness to work in synergy with security agencies to reduce illegal checkpoints on the highways.
Acting Chairman Taraba State Internal Revenue Service Bala Abdulkadir stated this during a sensitization exercise with stakeholders on the Single Interstate Road Tax sticker and Single Haulage Fee initiative.
Bala Abdulkadir explained that the Nigeria Join Tax Board JTB has recently unveiled its plan to implement a policy aimed at addressing the issue of illegal and multiple taxations on inter-state roads across the country.
He said the policy introduces two initiatives, which include the Single Interstate Road Tax Sticker SIRTS and the Single Haulage Fee SHF, which aim to eliminate illegal tax collection, extortion, and revenue leakages in Nigeria.
The Acting Chairman assured the JTB and her partner of full implementation of the policy in the state and solicited support from Tarabans.
Also speaking the representative of Join Tax Board JTB Samson Daniel Haruna said the policy has been implemented in twenty-two states of the federation.
He maintained that illegal tax collection and multiple taxations have long been a challenge for transporters and businesses operating on inter-state roads in Nigeria, adding that the situation has hindered the ease of doing business and led to inflated costs for transportation, particularly affecting the agricultural sector.
Also commenting representatives of road transport workers all appreciated the JTB for initiating the policy saying it will help to reduce the hardship faced by drivers on highways.
